Editorial Policy: How We Produce Our Content

SME Finance Hub is a trading style of Capital Business Loans Limited, an FCA-authorised commercial finance broker (FRN 1000382). This page explains who writes our guidance, how it is reviewed and updated, where our figures come from, and how we are paid.

    Last reviewed: 18 August 2026

    Who writes our content

Every guide, product page and article on this site is written or reviewed by a member of the SME Finance Hub broking team. Our directors and brokers work on live UK SME funding cases every day, and that day-to-day experience — not generic research — is what informs the guidance we publish. You can see who we are on our Meet the Team page.

    How we review it

Before publication, content is checked for factual accuracy against current lender criteria and for compliance with our regulatory obligations. We avoid absolute claims such as 'cheapest' or 'guaranteed approval', because pricing and eligibility always depend on the individual business. Where we describe rates, terms or timescales we describe what is typical, and we say so.

    How often we update it

Lending criteria in the UK alternative finance market change frequently. Core product and eligibility pages are reviewed at least every six months, and sooner whenever a material change happens in the market — for example a shift in typical lender appetite, rates or turnover requirements. Pages carry a last reviewed date so you can see how current the information is.

    Where our figures come from

Funding amounts, terms and timescales quoted on this site come from our own specialist lender panel and from cases we have placed. Wider market context is drawn from published Bank of England, FCA and British Business Bank data. Any example scenario is labelled as illustrative, and any client case study is published with consent and anonymised where the client has asked us to.

How we are paid, and why it matters

SME Finance Hub is a credit broker, not a lender. We charge applicants no upfront fees; we are paid a commission by the lender when a facility completes. Commission levels vary between lenders, so we publish our full commission model on the How We Get Paid page. Our recommendations are based on what suits the business, and you are always free to decline any offer we present.
