When a business needs working capital quickly, the time taken to reach a decision can matter. These three recent examples show how different lenders assessed applications for fast business loans: £28,000 through iwoca, £50,000 through Funding Circle and £15,000 through Nucleus Commercial Finance.
Each case had a different process and outcome. One received a full approval nearly instantly, another was approved instantly and drawn down the next day, and a third received an offer within an hour before completing further checks. These are individual client outcomes, not typical terms or guarantees. Approval, timing and availability depend on the lender’s criteria and each business’s circumstances.
Our Fast Business Loans page explains how we combine automated lender assessments, Open Banking and human broker support for limited companies. Here is what happened in these three cases.
£28,000 through iwoca: covering overheads during a delayed payment
A personal care business was waiting for a large payment owed to it. Because the payment had been delayed, the business needed working capital to cover its overheads in the meantime.
SME Finance Hub arranged £28,000 through iwoca. In this case, iwoca’s automated underwriting system was able to provide a full approval nearly instantly using the information on the SME Finance Hub application form.
Automated decisions may be available for applications that fall within a lender’s criteria, including relevant loan amounts and company profiles. This outcome does not mean that all iwoca applications, or applications for the same amount, will receive an instant decision.
The iwoca facility offered the client the option to settle early and save on remaining interest, subject to the agreement’s terms. This mattered because the business was borrowing to manage a temporary cash-flow gap while waiting for a payment. Any early-settlement saving depends on the facility agreement and how interest is calculated; your broker helps you check the terms before you commit.
There were no upfront lender fees and no upfront broker fees in this case. SME Finance Hub receives commission from the lender, which is disclosed before a client commits. This does not mean borrowing is cost-free: interest and repayment commitments still apply.

£50,000 through Funding Circle: approved instantly, drawn down the next day
A second client secured £50,000 through Funding Circle. Suitable limited companies may receive automated decisions using available online information and lender checks. Our fast-funding process includes two panel lenders that can potentially assess applications up to £100,000 through their automated systems; availability depends on each lender’s current criteria.
In this client’s case, the loan was approved instantly and drawn down the following day. That was the timing for this application; it is not a promise of an instant decision or next-day funding for other businesses. Lender checks, completion of documents and other circumstances can affect the process.
Your broker helps you compare the loan’s costs, term and repayments with other suitable panel options. A quick approval alone is not a reason to accept an offer: the repayments still need to fit the business’s cash flow.
£15,000 through Nucleus: an offer within an hour
The third example involved £15,000 arranged with Nucleus Commercial Finance. Nucleus uses Open Banking as part of its lending process.
After completing the SME Finance Hub application form, the client received an Open Banking link from Nucleus. Once the client connected their account, Nucleus made a loan offer within one hour. Following post-offer checks and online signing of the documents, the funds were ready for the client the same day.
The one-hour offer and same-day availability are details of this individual case, not guaranteed timings for other applicants. Open Banking can help a lender review information, but an offer and payout still depend on the lender’s assessment and any required checks being completed.
There was also a specific eligibility point for this application: a director needed to be a homeowner to apply. Requirements can differ between products and applications, so your broker will confirm the relevant criteria before you proceed. This was a requirement for this case, not a universal rule for our lender panel.

What the three cases show about fast business loans
These examples show that “fast” can refer to different parts of the process. A lender may issue a decision quickly, but the time to draw funds also depends on checks, documents, acceptance of the offer and completion of the agreement.
- iwoca: a full approval was provided nearly instantly using the application information.
- Funding Circle: the client received an instant approval and drew down the funds the next day.
- Nucleus: the client received an offer within an hour of connecting through Open Banking, then completed further checks and online signing before funds were ready the same day.
Same-day funding may be possible for eligible businesses, subject to lender assessment. A fast decision is not the same as guaranteed approval or payout, and an enquiry is not a commitment to borrow.
How SME Finance Hub approaches an urgent enquiry
Once you have completed our online application, we approach two panel lenders whose automated systems can potentially assess suitable applications up to £100,000 using online credit information.
At the same time, we ask for six months of business bank statements and your latest full accounts. We send Open Banking links from two to three suitable lenders and review the documents ourselves, proposing the case to other appropriate panel lenders where suitable.
This combines lender-system speed with support from a named broker. We compare the suitable offers available to us, explain costs and conditions, and help you decide whether borrowing is appropriate. It is not a promise that every lender will offer funding or that every enquiry will move at the same speed.
Consider the cost and the personal guarantee
All three facilities described here included a personal guarantee from at least one director. A personal guarantee can make the person giving it personally liable for some or all of the company’s debt if the business does not meet its obligations. The exact responsibility depends on the guarantee’s wording and terms. Directors should understand what they are signing, when the guarantee could be called upon and what personal assets may be at risk. Read our personal guarantee guide.
Before taking a fast business loan, compare the full offer rather than focusing only on the speed of the decision. Check:
- The total amount repayable, interest and any lender fees.
- The repayment amount and frequency, and whether these fit the business’s cash flow.
- Early-settlement or overpayment terms, including how any interest saving is calculated.
- Whether a personal guarantee or other security is required.
- What happens if the business cannot meet repayments.
A short-term loan may help address a temporary gap, such as a delayed customer payment, but may not suit a business whose cash-flow pressures are ongoing. Consider whether the expected source of repayment is realistic and whether other finance options could be more appropriate. Read more about short-term business loans and unsecured business loans.

Explore your funding options
SME Finance Hub works with a specialist lender panel and provides support from a named broker to help businesses understand available options, costs, repayments, security and personal guarantees. An initial enquiry involves no hard credit search and does not affect your credit score. Further lender checks may apply if you choose to proceed, and these will be explained beforehand.
There are no upfront broker fees and no obligation to proceed. Commission is paid by the lender and disclosed before you commit. SME Finance Hub is a trading style of Capital Business Loans Limited, an FCA-authorised credit broker, not a lender. Lending is subject to status and lender approval; these individual outcomes do not guarantee similar terms, decisions or funding timescales for other businesses.
